My company, Blue State Digital, is looking for up to four LAMP developers to start as soon as possible. We can hire both for full-time positions, and for 6 month contracts that run through the end of the U.S. general election in November. If you don't want a whole new job, but you want to take a sabbatical from your current work to get involved in political tech work, this is the perfect opportunity for you! These are all salaried positions, not internships or volunteering.

Also note that while the position is on-site in Boston, we may be able to offer housing assistance if you're not located in the Boston area. And Boston is a great place to spend 6 months. Also, if you know me, you can stay in my guest room (with separate bathroom!) while you interview and/or get settled.

It's an awesome place to work (about 12 people in an office in Fort Point, South Boston, the rest of the company is in D.C.), and a great chance to see the inside of a number of political campaigns. We host the fundraising and social networking tools for Barack Obama's campaign, as well as having many congressional candidates and organizations like Save Darfur as clients.

I've been here over a year now and both professionally - the challenges of scaling Obama's site up as the primaries have gone on - and personally - doing work that directly supports my social goals - I love it.

Qualifications - you must have:

At least 3 years of professional web development experience

A strong understanding of LAMP development processes and best practices

Experience building complex applications using PHP and MySQL

Excellent CSS, Javascript, and AJAX skills

A solid understanding of modern web development tools and techniques

An abiding desire to put your technical wizardry to work for democracy and for our country

Special consideration given to candidates who have:

Experience scaling large LAMP applications

Deep knowledge of MySQL performance and query optimization

Strong practical knowledge of web application security

Created highly usable user interface/experience for complex web applications

Worked in a fast-paced web development environment and have proven their ability to write outstanding code under tight deadlines.

Send resume and cover letter to me at chuck@bluestatedigital.com. Also feel free to contact me with any questions (which I can answer or pass along to HR) or if you'd like the PDF version of the job descriptions (Obama-specific and general both available).

It will come, I'm sure, as a complete shock to anyone watching this space that I don't update it much. I have now moved what effort I put in to blogging-like activity over to http://hagenbu.ch/, my shiny new web site/journal/whatevah. FYI.
